Part 2: Skrolsvik & Harstad

North Norway with SV Antigua, 2019: Tromsø-Lofoten-Bodø

After a night’s passage we reached Skrolsvik, a lovely little place on the southern end of Senja. Here you can hike up the mountains as far as you want to or can, you can take a walk to the shore and discover fortifications from the war and you can visit the “Gammelbutikken”, the historical shop which is now kept as kind of a museum. They were so kind to open just for us – takk skal dere ha!

On we went to Harstad, the biggest place in this area, on Hinnøya, Norway’s largest island, which belongs to the Vesterålen islands. Also near Harstad, the Germans built some mighty fortifications and coastal batteries during the grim days of the second world war. Crazy! Unfortunately, the historical museum and medieval church were closed. They would have provided a contrast as interesting as peaceful.
