Gallery Krossfjord, Kongsfjord
The beginning of this voyage on SV Antigua could hardly have been better: wonderful clouds over Adventfjord, great September light on the surrounding mountains. Several Finnwhales and even a Blue whale in Isfjord.
The weather changed already the next day in Pyramiden. We managed just in time to get into the reasonably sheltered Krossfjord, where we were still able to do 2 landings with quite a winter feeling about them, before we had to hide from the wind behind Blomstrandhalvøya for a day. Time for presentations, about the environment, about photography, for a slightly weird documentary about a rather recent expedition to Greenland. Also an experience, and actually not that bad. But still, it was good to touch ground again the next day; it did not look much different from what it will be like in March, in full-blown winter conditions. But then, at least, the little streams will be really frozen. Now, they drain into the snow, creating large swampy areas of knee-deep snow and meltwater, a terrible terrain in places.
Once wind and swell had calmed down, we were also able to go alongside in Ny Ålesund. The snow had brought quite a christmas atmosphere over the little village.
