Part 1: from Longyearbyen to the ice edge

Antigua, ice

Anti­gua in the ice. One of my favou­ri­te pho­tos of this beau­tiful ship – and I have got many 🙂

We stea­m­ed up north, some­thing that at times tur­ned out to be a moving expe­ri­ence (espe­ci­al­ly the swell when we left Isfjord …). We saw the first polar bear alre­a­dy on the first mor­ning – what a start! No landing, but a bear … not a bad trade. Landings would come soon enough, name­ly in Bjørn­ham­na in the evening of the same day.

And then we went up north to the ice edge. That is a beau­tiful world on its own, with all the ice, and then Anti­gua in the­re … on top of it, we could hoist the sails – all of ’em – when we tur­ned south towards the coast again! What a tre­at!
