Jyttes Havn and Charcot Havn

Karte_5

Jyttes Havn is one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the area, as even the well-travelled polar sailor Arved Fuchs would agree. A little hike up on the hills makes it clear why.

Charcot Havn, a bit further south, offers fascinating geological variety: a wealth of marine fossils that is quite unexpected and unique, on this level at least. By the way, if you want to read more about the fossils, then you will find good resources here: Larsen et al (2003): Stratigraphy and sedimentology of a basement-onlapping shallow marine sandstone succession, the Charcot Bugt Formation, Middle–Upper Jurassic, East Greenland and Surlyk (2003): The Jurassic of East Greenland: a sedimentary record of thermal subsidence, onset and culmination of rifting.
