Gallery 3: Liefdefjord

We continued into Liefdefjord, where we saw our first polar bear on a small island, a sleepy bear (most likely a female), but nevertheless it gave us squite some excitement without actually taking much notice of us.

The centre of our attention in Liefdefjord was Monacoreen. The glacier hikers went up onto the ice with ropes and crampons, while those who preferred to remain on solid ground or liquid water went out with the Zodiac to visit the icebergs and the calving glacier front. This turned out to be the extended version (director’s cut!) of a glacier cruise, and we enjoyed every minute of it, with a calving glacier front, collapsing icebergs, many birds and the whole lot.
