Polar bear, Smeerenburg

Ear­ly mor­ning polar bear at Smee­ren­burg.

This chap­ter of the jour­ney had an excel­lent start with an ear­ly mor­ning polar bear at Smee­ren­burg. A very curious ani­mal, that, after first che­cking out a group of wal­ru­ses hau­led out on the shore, came swim­ming towards us to have a look at the ship. A rare and beau­tiful expe­ri­ence.

The sun stay­ed with us as we con­tin­ued into Raud­fjord and did some beau­tiful hikes the­re and fur­ther east, on Reins­dyr­flya.

The next part of the jour­ney should take us even fur­ther north and to the ice, but that is the next part …
