Dickson Land 07/2007

Situated on the northern side of Isfjord, Billefjord and Dickson Land are still comparatively easy accessible, varied and perfect areas for demanding hiking tours of different duration. In the summer, you can get from Longyearbyen to Pyramiden almost every day by boat. From Pyramiden, you can take off for hours, days or weeks in the most delightful and contrast-rich arctic landscape. Depending on your route, the terrain can be quite demanding, involving crossing rivers, glaciers and terrain as steep as you can take it. Next to the usual hiking equipment, you need a rifle, alarm fence for your tent and other emergency gear, so there is a lot to carry. But the experience is extremely rewarding – have a look at some photos of a hiking tour in that area in the galleries below!

Special thanks to Elke Lindner and the good old MV Grigoriy Mikheev.
