Gallery 5: Back to the west coast

Advanced Spitsbergen with SY Arctica II, 02nd – 20th August 2016

After the remote and rather untouched wilderness of Nordaustland, the west coast almost has a touch of civilisation again. Almost. Actually, it is beautiful arctic wilderness, which we enjoyed thoroughly in Hornsund.

After a rainy day in Recherchefjord, we made a long hike in Van Keulenfjorden and used the rare opportunity to visit an impressive glacier cave. You have to use an opportunity like this when you have it. It will not exist forever.

Back in Isfjord, the weather forced us into the first fjord available. But those who thought that Grønfjord does not have any nice scenery had a nice lesson to learn there. And in Barentsburg, we could slowly get accustomed to civilisation again … 😉
