Norway - Bear Island - Spitsbergen with SV Meander, 25.4.-8.5.2022
Part 2: The crossing - Barents Sea and Bear Island
The crossing: with SV Meander across the Barents Sea to Bear Island and Spitsbergen.
When the weather finally gave us an opportunity for the crossing, it was still not really favourable, with constant winds and seas from exactly the wrong direction (what else?). Nevertheless, we made a stop at Bear Island (Bjørnøya) including a little landing – short, but good, indeed.
Landing on Bear Island (Bjørnøya).
There was even quite a bit of drift ice in the vicinity of Bear Island, something that has become quite unusual in recent years. That required some extra miles on the crossing further north, but finally the west coast of Spitsbergen came into view, with Hornsundtind as the prominent and well-known landmark that it has been for centuries, and the early next morning saw us at anchor in Bellsund.
