Back to the west coast! We spent yet another full day in the far north, in Sallyhamna and Smeerenburgfjord. Against our hopes, we did not see any polar bear that day either and we were getting a bit anxious about our remaining chances to see one. Well, it would be a beautiful trip also without a polar bear sighting – we do explicitely not run polar bear safaris – and on the other hand, we still had some time ahead of us.

The following day brought amazing landscape and light in St. Jonsfjord.

The reindeer at Alkhornet were amazing, and so was the glacier Borebreen. The landscape on Flintholmen – fascinating. But we still had not see a polar bear … by now, one would have to be a bit naive to still maintain hope for a polar bear sighting, or ..? But the trip is really over when the ship is alongside in the harbour of Longyearbyen, no earlier than that. And indeed, with a bit of luck, we found polar bears, in Dicksonfjord – three of them! Talk of luck on the very last afternoon! With a distance of quite exactly 500 m, they were a bit far away for most cameras, but it is about the experience.
