Ny-Ålesund: Amundsenvilla

360° panorama

The Amundsenvilla was and still is the director’s house in Ny-Ålesund, but Roald Amundsen used to stay here during his expeditions in 1925 and 1926 so it is generally known as Amundsenvilla. During renovation work from 2009 to 2011, drawings were found under more recent wallpaper that had been made by members of those expeditions!

The director’s accommodation is on the second floor, while rooms on the first floor are used for representative purposes. There is no public access to the Amundsenvilla.

The director lived obviously in a central location, so from here we can see Amundsen’s statue, the service building that includes the canteen and more important buildings.
