Gallery 2: the north coast
04-22 August 2019
We spent a full day in the beautiful surroundings of Raudfjord, with plenty of impressive glaciers and mountains, which we enjoyed from the boat and during a fine mountain walk.
We arrived late the same night in Mushamna in Woodfjord, one of Spitsbergen’s finest anchorages and a great places for various walks and hikes. Later, after another walk further south in Woodfjord, we saw our first polar bear near Mushamna on our way north.
Next day, we said goodbye to this area during a walk on one of these lovely islands in Liefdefjord and continued with a northeasterly course, crossing 80 degrees and rounding Verlegenhuken. Under sail, in good style. Testing how much of a sailor everybody was. Well, everybody was up and about again a few hours later, at Eolusneset in Sorgfjord.
