Spitsbergen with SV Antigua, 10-23 September 2023

Win­ter land­scape on Von Otterøya.

After a stop on Kie­per­tøya with ple­nty of old wha­le­bo­nes, wal­ru­ses and a lot of pla­s­tic on the shores (a good bit less when we left), we went on to the migh­ty gla­cier cliff of Brås­vell­breen, which seems to be infi­ni­te­ly long. It almost is. Then win­ter came, with a lot of snow the next day on Von Otterøya and any­whe­re else we went for the rest of the trip.

One of the high­lights of the who­le trip was the polar bear sight­ing on Wahl­ber­gøya, whe­re we wat­ched a big cre­a­my-white guy having break­fast on the remains of a dead wha­le.

We found out that Alkef­jel­let is an ama­zing place even wit­hout Brünich’s guil­l­emots, and then we con­tin­ued into Murch­ison­fjord for some impres­si­ons of Nord­aus­t­land in Snaddvi­ka and Kinn­vi­ka.
