This voyage took us away from well-trodden tourist tracks to remote parts of the Spitsbergen archipelago. For 18 intense days, we did not follow a set route, but made decisions as we went, following wind and weather and always the bow of the boat. We made many exciting trips to little islands and into beautiful fjords and enjoyed some amazing encounters with the arctic wildlife. Over the days, skipper Heinrich Eggenfellner from Longyearbyen, fellow guide Kerstin Langenberger from Germany/Iceland, 9 expeditioners and I formed a team that kept the spirits well up even when it was grey, windy and wet. We enjoyed life on board and on the tundra, where we made it at least once per day, mostly twice or even three times even though the weather was not always on our side. We got to some places that are very rarely visited by tourists. Exciting, unforgettable days!
