A long and amazing voyage on board the barkentine SV Antigua around Svalbard. From the diversity of the west coast to the barren polar desert areas in remote northern and northeastern parts of the Spitsbergen archipelago – we went there and did and saw a lot of it. Altogether favoured by weather and ice or rather the lack of the latter (something that we did not necessarily like, we would certainly have appreciated some sea ice for the sake of the nature and for our experience), the long 2018 summer journey of SV Antigua was again a very comprehensive and beautiful arctic experience, with a lot of landings, both shorter excursions and longer hikes, wildlife encounters, sailing – you name it. I would say it’s impossible to do more Spitsbergen in 2 ½ than we did here! We followed our nose, the wind and generally the jibboom, which took us to many stunning places, some well known, others well hidden, thus exploring many secrets of Svalbard, one by one.
Here is the triplog for download (pdf, German only).
The following sub-pages have photo galleries and a map, giving you impressions of where we were and what we did and saw while keeping an overview of the various sections of the voyage at the same time. Enjoy following us in Spitsbergen on board SV Antigua!
Placenames with links point to pages with 360 degree panoramas of these places, so you can easily find and enjoy virtual tours of these parts of Spitsbergen.
