Gallery 2: Far north

Advanced Spitsbergen with SY Arctica II, 02nd – 20th August 2016

On the northernmost islands, we found walrusses, a polar bear and, well, the northernmost islands. But the world continues even beyond those northernmost islands. We went to the 81st parallel under sail and fog. On Karl XII Øya and Foynøya we made rare landings in barely touched arctic nature. On Storøya, we did not make a landing, but got stunning impressions from the hourglass-shaped ice cap in wild light and atmosphere.

The northern coast of Nordaustland is rocky, barren and wild. Step by step, we made our way from island to fjord, from fjord to island, towards Hinlopen Strait.
