Spitsbergen with SV Antigua, September 12-22, 2017

If you ask sea­so­ned arc­tic tra­vel­lers what keeps them fasci­na­ted about the far north, then „light“ is likely to be part of the ans­wer. And if you ask what makes Sep­tem­ber a good time to tra­vel the arc­tic, then again, „light“ will be part of the ans­wer. So: light times two! This descri­bes a good part of my hopes for this trip, and I was not dis­ap­poin­ted. Nor anyo­ne else, for that sake. We were not lucky with the Auro­ra this time, but we had a series of mind­blo­wing sun­sets. And pro­ba­b­ly sun­ri­ses as well, but they are quite easy to miss …

We fol­lo­wed the west coast to the north, whe­re we spent a cou­ple of days. One day, we had quite a bit of wind on the north coast, and some real sai­ling! But main­ly, we enjoy­ed the light, beau­tiful hikes, the light, gla­ciers, the light (I may have men­tio­ned this befo­re) and even a fire on the beach in beau­tiful evening … oh … light! Yes!
