Expedition to Nordaustland
18 August - 10 September 2010 with SV Arctica
There were six of us on board when we left with the sailing boat Arctica, which is small, but highly suitable for the purpose: getting to some of the remotest areas of the Spitsbergen archipelago. The idea was to look for further remains left by the ill-fated German Schröder-Stranz Expedition, who dropped four members, including the leader, in Duvefjord in late summer 1912. All four disappeared and the details of their last journey are still unknown.
Unfortunately, too soon the ice entered Duvefjord and we had to leave too early in order to make new discoveries. On the other hand, this left us with even more time for our second obligation, filming arctic wildlife. And so we did, with considerable success.
