Part 1: From Longyearbyen to Kongsfjord

Wooly lousewort, Kapp Wijk, Dicksonfjord

Wooly lousewort in Dicksonfjord.

The very beginning was a bit grey, but it took less than an hour after departure until we had our first amazing wildlife encounter, a group of belugas in Adventfjord. Next morning in Dicksonfjord, the sky was clear again, and so it remained largely for more than a week! Good for us, but it was probably the driest July in Longyearbyen since 1998, according to Svalbardposten. Well, the month is not quite over yet at the time of writing.

In any case we could enjoy a lot of sun, and so we did and we made good use of all the opportunities that came with the good weather – starting in Isfjord and Forlandsund on the way north into Kongsfjord. Beautiful days! The photo gallery below will give you some good impressions.

Then it was time to get on and move northwards.
