With SV Antigua to north Spitsbergen and to the ice edge, 31 May - 08 June 2024
Part 2: northwest Spitsbergen
Hamiltonbukta i Raudfjord
Our next destination was Raudfjord, where the fog created some very atmospheric impressions in scenic Hamiltonbukta.
The little walk in Alicehamna (Bruceneset) was really not long at all, but it was beautiful and in the deep snow, you don’t need much distance to burn some calories 🙂
The little late afternoon cruise in Klinckowströmfjord (the eastern one of Raudfjord’s two inner branches) turned out to be a not-so-little highlight, with sun, fjordice in the process of breaking up, at least two Minke whales, countless Brünich’s guillemots and the surrounding scenery of mountains and glaciers.

The next day had several more highlights. Starting with several thousand little auks on Fuglesongen, we continued into Fuglefjord with the mighty glacier Svitjodbreen.
Little auks on Fuglesongen.
Later, we sighted another polar bear in Kobbefjord on Danskøya. Another unexpected wildlife sighting in exchange for a landing. Not bad.

The companion book for the Svalbardhytter poster. The poster visualises the diversity of Spitsbergen‘s huts and their stories in a range of Arctic landscapes. The book tells the stories of the huts in three languages.
