Back on the west coast! We had had a good weather window to get around the notorious south cape, which is important especially for a small ship like Meander. Some easterly wind was coming up and stayed with us for some days, a reason for not going into Hornsund but staying on the outer coast, where we had a good time both in and around Vestvika south of Hornsund and in Hyttevika further north.
We then spent another stunning day in Recherchefjord. The sun stayed with us so it was a great opportunity for some really good hikes, including Observatoriefjellet which has stunning views.
It was a bit of a sudden departure from Recherchebreen where some dense fog suddenly came in, but it was anyway time to get back into Isfjord again, where we rounded this fantastic voyage off with stops in Ymerbukta and Colesbukta before we made the last few miles back to Longyearbyen.
View from Observatoriefjellet to Recherchebreen.
