Gipshuksletta 1

Gipshuksletta is a flat peninsula, which stretching out into the sea between Billefjord and Sassenfjord/Tempelfjord. It consists mostly of basaltic rocks (dolerite or diabas, to be more precise). The view includes most of the large Isfjord and, more closely, the mountains Gipshuken and Templet.

Gipshuksletta 2: the Nøis-hut

There is an old hut on the southern side of Gipshuksletta. It was built in 1925 by the famous hunter Hilmar Nøis, who lived in the area for many years. His main hut was Fredheim in Tempelfjord/Sassendalen.
