Part 1: From Isfjord to Sorgfjord
Ekmanfjord in autumn mood.
We spent the first day in Isfjord, namely in the beautiful Ekmanfjord. Even with a bit of low clouds and some fog banks – or maybe because of that? Very atmospheric 😀 – a great start into the journey.
It didn’t take too long until we saw our first walruses in Forlandsund and our first polar bear near Fuglehuken on Prins Karls Forland (it wasn’t to be the only one on this trip). Then we went up north to the beautiful northwest corner of Spitsbergen and continued to Sorgfjord.

We also did some great hikes during this leg of the voyage (and later), but that isn’t really reflected in the photo galleries. I had a bit of a cold so I was quite happy to let Daniel and Uwe do the hikes – so there were plenty of good guides on board, no problem, you just have to imagine an extra photo here and there with a view from a little mountain, I preferred not to do that kind of thing for a couple of days. Well, it was not really a matter of choice. Anyway …

The companion book for the Svalbardhytter poster. The poster visualises the diversity of Spitsbergen‘s huts and their stories in a range of Arctic landscapes. The book tells the stories of the huts in three languages.
Comprehensive guidebook about Spitsbergen. Background (wildlife, plants, geology, history etc.), practical information including travelling seasons, how to travel, description of settlements, routes and regions.
Join an exciting journey with dog, skis and tent through the wintery wastes of East Greenland! We were five guys and a dog when we started in Ittoqqortoormiit, the northernmost one of two settlements on Greenland’s east coast.
12 postcards which come in a beautifully designed tray. Beautiful images from South Georgia across Antarctica from the Antarctic Peninsula to the Ross Sea and up to Macquarie Island and Campbell Island.
