Spitsbergen with SV Meander, 26 August - 08 September 2023

Ekm­anfjord in autumn mood.

We spent the first day in Isfjord, name­ly in the beau­tiful Ekm­anfjord. Even with a bit of low clouds and some fog banks – or may­be becau­se of that? Very atmo­sphe­ric 😀 – a gre­at start into the jour­ney.

It didn’t take too long until we saw our first wal­ru­ses in For­lands­und and our first polar bear near Fug­le­hu­ken on Prins Karls For­land (it wasn’t to be the only one on this trip). Then we went up north to the beau­tiful nor­thwest cor­ner of Spits­ber­gen and con­tin­ued to Sorg­fjord.

We also did some gre­at hikes during this leg of the voya­ge (and later), but that isn’t real­ly reflec­ted in the pho­to gal­le­ries. I had a bit of a cold so I was quite hap­py to let Dani­el and Uwe do the hikes – so the­re were ple­nty of good gui­des on board, no pro­blem, you just have to ima­gi­ne an extra pho­to here and the­re with a view from a litt­le moun­tain, I pre­fer­red not to do that kind of thing for a cou­ple of days. Well, it was not real­ly a mat­ter of choice. Any­way …
