Part 5: from Hornsund to Isfjord

Akseløya

Akseløya.

The pas­sa­ge around the infa­mous south cape was after all not that bad, but the poten­ti­al­ly stun­ning scenic views in Horn­sund remain­ed lar­ge­ly hid­den behind fog and rain. At least we mana­ged a landing in Gås­ham­na with reasonable visi­bi­li­ty and wit­hout get­ting too wet.

Reindeer, Bellsund

Reinde­er in Bell­sund.

The wea­ther got bet­ter in Bell­sund, whe­re we star­ted with an evening walk on Akseløya and the next day we enjoy­ed a long day out­side with a long hike to a litt­le auk colo­ny. Fan­ta­stic stuff!

Our last tun­dra walk took place on Erd­mann­flya in Isfjord and then we roun­ded the trip off at Bore­breen, an impres­si­ve and curr­ent­ly advan­cing gla­cier in Bore­buk­ta.
