With SV Mean­der to nor­thwest Spits­ber­gen and the ice – 30th of April to 09th of May 2025

An ear­ly start to the 2025 “Spits­ber­gen under sail” sea­son with SV Mean­der. We set off from Lon­gye­ar­by­en at the end of April, making this trip tru­ly a jour­ney into the Arc­tic win­ter. The wea­ther was gre­at, the atmo­sphe­re on board was good, we saw a lot, inclu­ding polar bears, and we did a lot … In short: we had a lot of fun! Wha­les and arc­tic foxes remain a wish for the next trip – once you’ve been bit­ten by the Arc­tic bug, it’s hard to get rid of it 🙂

On this trip, we also pro­vi­ded important pro­of that Sval­bard is still fun in 2025, despi­te the new rules, which rai­sed the blood pres­su­re of many for a long time. Yes, you have to deal with it, but as we have seen, you can. Even exci­ting polar bear sightin­gs and beau­tiful pho­tos are pos­si­ble, as we have seen. The days of for­mat-fil­ling polar bear pho­tos with a mobi­le pho­ne in Sval­bard are over (this didn’t real­ly exist in the past eit­her, but with luck it could go in that direc­tion). But with the right equip­ment, you can still take gre­at pic­tures, as the pho­to coll­ec­tion below will show. And the appro­pria­te equip­ment is available 📷😎
