With SV Meander to northwest Spitsbergen and the ice – 30th of April to 09th of May 2025
An early start to the 2025 “Spitsbergen under sail” season with SV Meander. We set off from Longyearbyen at the end of April, making this trip truly a journey into the Arctic winter. The weather was great, the atmosphere on board was good, we saw a lot, including polar bears, and we did a lot … In short: we had a lot of fun! Whales and arctic foxes remain a wish for the next trip – once you’ve been bitten by the Arctic bug, it’s hard to get rid of it 🙂
On this trip, we also provided important proof that Svalbard is still fun in 2025, despite the new rules, which raised the blood pressure of many for a long time. Yes, you have to deal with it, but as we have seen, you can. Even exciting polar bear sightings and beautiful photos are possible, as we have seen. The days of format-filling polar bear photos with a mobile phone in Svalbard are over (this didn’t really exist in the past either, but with luck it could go in that direction). But with the right equipment, you can still take great pictures, as the photo collection below will show. And the appropriate equipment is available 📷😎

You can actually visit some of the places that we went to on this trip online on this website:
Farmhamna (we did not visit the actual trapper station, but went for a hike on the east side of the bay).

The companion book for the Svalbardhytter poster. The poster visualises the diversity of Spitsbergen‘s huts and their stories in a range of Arctic landscapes. The book tells the stories of the huts in three languages.

Join an exciting journey with dog, skis and tent through the wintery wastes of East Greenland! We were five guys and a dog when we started in Ittoqqortoormiit, the northernmost one of two settlements on Greenland’s east coast.
